Does the dream pot do roasts etc? If anyone else has anything to add, please do. Cheers, Nola. Nola by Turbo Oven I presume you mean the electric one with the glass tub?? I have both but only use the TO at home & not very much & never in the van. I also have a DP and use it far more extensively than the TO. In answer to your question....yes you can do roasts in the DP. You can do it as a pot roast or in an oven roasting bag or 2 for good measure. One of my favourite meals in the DP is pickled pork...yummo. I have also cooked scones and make yoghurt on a regular basis in the DP. I reckon I paid for mine within the first year, less energy, greater convenience and ease of cleaning.

lol we have had the house bbq set up behind the van here at home and doing lots of cooking outside. Its as close to being in the van as we can get as work allows at the moment.

I do similar....open the van every afternoon when I come home from work. I also have it open all weekend and am in & out of it often for one reason or another. You are right TassieD....it is small compensation for the real thing. I have changed the bed linen in readiness for the next weekend away and this weekend will give it a good dust and clean....put everything back in place....ready steady...go. 253 days to retirement......and plenty of weekends away in the interim.

Our last morning in any trip involves putting fresh linen on the bed. That way, the bed is always ready for the next trip away!
What hints do others have to make the most of time in the van?

Now, back to the shoe topic..... just finished our one year lap & took the following footwear which was all very well utilised: - shower thongs (for cps & NPs)
- go-anywhere surf sandals (brand - Columbia)
- sand shoes
- good hiking boots (did 1000s of km)
- dressier sandals for when in cities or restaurants
- closed-in shoes for cooler weather
- gum boots - yes they got used heaps
Cheers, Bev

What do you do when you get home from a trip away? Do you prepare the van straightaway for the next trip or leave it until you're getting ready to leave again? As soon as possible after we get home from a trip away I change bed linen, replace towels, clean the inside of the van from end to end and check/replace basic non-perishable food and toiletries. Kevin cleans the outside of the van, cleans and repacks outdoor equipment; and of course, being the 'Earl of Thedford' he empties that too! I keep a couple of summer/winter and between season clothes in the van for us both, along with a few changes of underwear, then if the opportunity to getaway arises it's simply a matter of throwing in a few more items of clothing appropriate to the season, fresh food into the fridge/freezer/cupboard and we're off! We refer to it as being 'in standby mode'. We're taking our granddaughter to Bendigo this weekend, a short trip but any excuse to get away! Jan
