Thanks Rod,
The system of storage we have of posts makes a lot of things just disappear, and finding the info is not always easy. I came across it by reading my old posts.
There is a fair bit of time in putting those pics together and hard to find when time goes bye.
All good fun though. :D

you know,we pride ourselves on modern technology and how it makes life easier etc etc ,but reading your thread weve been there before many times and many decades ago lol. for some unknown reason the better ideas never took off back then.

i dont have a favorite but the most pleasing and funny was the hitching posts to stop car theft.rofll..now im not the most clever of theifs but its dead easy. just cut the pole and take it too ROFL...not.

cheers and im surprised you found so many...

Things that have been Lost in Wollongong. (for better or for worse)
The Sani man.
The Ice man.
The home delivery Milk man be it horse and cart orTruck that bulk milk in drums and a dipper to put the milk into your Billy or like the one in Wollongong that had the drum of milk in the side car of his motor bike.
Bread delivered by horse and cart.
The Co-Op man coming around on horse back for your weekly order and delivery.
The meat man who delivered the meat by horse and cart.
The Hawker who came around with his suitcase of linen and towels etc.

Hans, that really takes me right back - I grew up in the 'Gong in the 50's (1948 to 1960) near Corrimal.

Certainly remember the Sani man - my mum used to say if I didn't do well at school, that's the only job I'd get in life ! We lived on the side of a hill and the poor bugger had to carry the full cans uphill nearly 50 metres (Na ! I'll be proper - 150 feet) to the road !

And the Ice man, at least until the mid-50's when dad bought our first refrigerator.

Yep - home milk delivery, and the Baker came round about half hour after I got home from school - I always got straight into the fresh hot crusts from both ends of the loaf (and got into trouble for doing so).

Didn't use the Co-op or Meat man, dad always went to their shops !

Don't remember any Hawkers, they probably came round when I was at school.

Ah ! The 'Gong, probably the most wonderful place in OZ.

All these things so long ago, a time to savor, and gone forever, but NEVER forgotten.

The 'Gong lives in my heart until I drop.

Regards, Brian
