Mobile Phone Help
Hi all I am looking for ideas on how to tackle my problem. This has nothing to do with caravans but there may be others on the forum who have had the same happen. I recently (8 weeks ago) purchased a new smart phone that went on the blink after four weeks so I took it back to the Optus Store where I purchased it to have it repaired under warranty. Four weeks later which brings me to yesterday I was told that the phone was water damaged and they wont repair it under warranty. I have never had the phone near water at all and when I tried to explain this to the store staff they just replied "that's what the repairer told us and it is not covered by warranty" I am perplexed on how a phone that has never been near water could be water damaged. Has anyone suffered the same type of issue and how was it handled? The size of these organisations makes it nearly impossible to challange them on this issue it appears their word is final.

Re: Mobile Phone Help
I was told by a tech that if you keep your phone in your pocket, like 99% of the population does, the phone sweats (for want of a better word) from your body heat causing minute amounts of condensation but enough to cause problems in some phones.

I'd suggest the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman it you can't resolve it directly with Optus. http://www.tio.com.au/

Re: Mobile Phone Help
I had a similar problem, and the tech told me there is strip of paper in the phone, usually under the battery. That turns pink when in contact with moisture. Mine was pink, so no warrenty.

If you phone optus and ask about the cost of cancelling your contract, they will find a way to help. If they get nasty, tell them you are heading to the communications ombudman and listen to them backpedal.
