To keep the rubber seals around windows of your 'van from going hard with age, give them a light coating of Vaseline. A coating 3 or 4 times a year will do the trick.

My neighbor is an Aeronautical engineer & he tells me they use Vaseline to keep rubber seals & O rings healthy on planes.

Hi Coxy, wouldn't it attract a lot of dust and leaks? (via the dust)...what I am saying is back in the "old" days we used to drive Mini's that stopped dead in a heavy mist when the leads/distributor got wet.

Spray them with WD40 and got going, BUT the weekend job was then to clean the leads and distributor cover with metho else dust collected on the WD40 and the car would stop in high humidity... :)

I am thinking vaseline would have the same issues...and I note in the latest mag they used Armorall to clean and protect the seals...

Tell us how it goes?

I thought Vaseline was the natural enemy of many rubber products :???:

The trick is use only a thin coating, if it wasn't effective they wouldn't be using it in the airline industry !!!

I think the rubber used in aero planes is acid resistant with the use of neoprene. No way would I use Vaseline with out asking the manufacture first folks . There are many other non hydro carbon based products to choose from.
For egsample in the vacuum type toilets that have rubber seals, it is written to never apply Vaseline. Just my thoughts.

Same with the Morris 1100. Mine was ok 1964 but 1965 was a problem.

Hi, I do know allot of people who use it for similar uses,
but i wouldn't use it mainly because of what's in it.

Active Ingredients: Petrolatum. Other Ingredients: Water, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, Myreth-3 Myristate, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Microcrystalline Wax, Tocopheryl Acetate Ceteareth-20, Carbomer, Tea, Ethylene Brassylate, Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.

All this sounds interesting, I'm not sure what some of these things are !!!!
