The only thing to watch is that some sort of non toxic "to certain toilets" agent be used so as not to de -activate long drop toilets, etc. But that is another topic.

That's another reason we use the nappy treatment, as it only works by oxygenating the contents, it is safe to use in long drops.

Generic nappy treatment gets my vote also....it is the only product I use in the toilet.

Hi Guys,

This is slightly OT but follows the previous posts on dump points. There is a great website that lists all the toilets around the country. It also lists dump points, something we have found very helpful along the way.

Here is the link: http://www.toiletmap.gov.au

Cheers...

G'day ,on boxing day we are hitching up and going to have a go at free camping for a couple of weeks ,we were going to camp along the Murray River but with all the flooding we will have to wait till closer to the day to make a final decision, if not we will just go with no set plan ..As we have never free camped while touring what are the ground rules to follow that would be acceptable to most reasonable fellow campers ..Things like open fires, when you arrive or leave ,how close to camp next to your neighbour ,cleaning up mess left by other campers ,when to stop any noise ,how long to stay if the area is crowded to give other folk a chance to stay there ,is it acceptable to empty the overnight wee bucket in the bush away from other campers .Is it a no no at truck stops and are there signs to say trucks only ,any hints you can give will be appreciated as we would like it to be as hassle free as possible and to fit in with fellow campers ...Cheers ..BoB...

G'day evercom ,no set plan just leaving from Sydney and stopping wherever we can get in ,have you any suggestions where to try that haven't been too affected by the floods and not be too crowded.. it doesn't matter if it is not on the river ...Do you think that it will be so busy that finding different spots will be difficult ,we are pretty independant with our caravan ...Cheers ..Bob...

Was reading in the Albury Border Mail yesterday 50,000 (yes fifty thousand!!!) tourists will be without a camp site from Corryong to Corowa along the Murray due to the floods. The tourist operators and business people in tourist areas are very concerned about loss of income. Good luck and have fun.

Hi Labrat
Like you we will be taking off the day after boxing day in our new Kedron ATV2,we will be going north to Banana, following the Burnett Highway. Our plan is to stay at Claud Wharton Weir for one night, then off to Wuruma Dam for a couple of nights and then to Banana where we will be camped out on my brother-in-laws front yard, not to sure where to after that, but we have two weeks to look around. Unfortunately it is the only time we can get away together , as we have a business and this is the time we close down for Xmas. Our plan is to pull into the camp sites early. hopefully while everyone is still travelling.
Happy thoughts

Good thread , and some good advice there too .

Commonsense is the main thing , and there is a saying " leave nothing behind except your wheel marks " .

Enjoy the trip and Happy New Year .

It would be nice if there were ground rules laid out for bushcamping but generally if you are considerate, then that should cover it all.

But it's a bit like the movie 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' where Butch (played by Paul Newman) is challenged to a knife fight by one of his gang (played by Ted Cassidy) for the position of leader.

Paul Newman, 'Now first let's agree on the rules'

Ted Cassidy, 'RULES!!! - IN A KNIFE FIGHT????'
