Post Re: F111 photos
Thanks for the comments guys. I am glad you liked them. When I get time I will post some more.

I would also like you to mention that I didn't take these photos as I noted that redbeak had given me credit for them. I would not like the credit for another persons work. An old work mate sent them to me from my days in the RAAF.

Slightly off the topic of the photos, My CO when I was at Base Squadron Richmond was a F111 pilot. He was one of the few lucky ones to bang out of an F111. Most of them didn't have time to eject when they crashed because they were flying so low. He was involved in an exercise in New Zealand when both engines failed. He and his Navigator banged out and landed in a lake. Two fishermen pulled them out. He had been back to NZ a couple of times since and catches up with them.

Cyclone,
TY for the honesty.Let me rephrase it,TY for posting [sharing] these truly great pics.

Im NOT aircraft savvy but i believe the whole cockpit ejects on the F111??? If im right then the others flying so low should have least tried to eject.

Cheers Rod

G'day Rod,

The F111, has an ejection module/capsule that separates from the main fuselage and has it's own rocket motors to assit in the ejection and clearance from the fuselage.

If you type into Google "F111 ejection module" you will get some youtube links that show how it works.

As for ejecting at low altitude, to low? to late!!!

Cheers,

PeterM.

Hi Rod, Peter is correct it is the whole module that separates.
Peter , To late is about right. These fellows flew so fast and so low there was not much time to react.

When looking at the pic's with the amazement of the PIG, try and look at it again with this little Fact ?? The F111 was first designed in the late 50's and first produced in the early 60's, and only know have retired.

There must have been some very smart people around in the 50's.

Not me, I was born in the 60's.

Cheers,

PeterM.
