Re: 3400lt Prado
G'day Tobes, I also have a 3400 V6 Prado (auto) and tow an 18'6 dual axle poptop with an ATM of 1950Kg. Tows it reasonably well although it does slow up somewhat up the the hills. It does depend on how you attack the hills- change down early to keep the revs above 2600. Tows my van about as well as my Landrover D1 V8 but doesn't use anywhere near as much fuel. Roger

Re: 3400lt Prado
Hi, Never owned a Prado but can relay an interesting point of personal experience. Back a few years I owned a 4.5 litre auto 80 series landcruiser. Towing a tandem axle Jayco Potop approx 18 ft with 4 up plus gear on Holiday July 2005. Left Carnarvon heading north caught up to a 3.4 auto Pet Prado towing a single axle approx 16 ft poptop two up(Jayco Freedom). I overtook him as he was travelling about 10 kmph slower than what I wanted to do, as it happens he passed me on a teenagers toilet break. We caught up and I followed Him to Manilya roadhouse and we both filled up. He told me he was on a trip around Australia however looked to be fairly lightly loaded. He worked out his then my consumption. The point being that he was less than impressed to realise he had used 5 litres of petrol more for the same distance(approx 200km), slower speed and smaller van. Anyway just thought I would share my experience with you. Hope it helps. Regards Alan.

Re: 3400lt Prado
Can't comment on the 3.4l but I have a 4.0l 2003 model petrol/auto Prado that tows my 18' A'Van beautifully.
16-18l per 100, a bit greedy but if you want performace you pay for it. Look around for the 4 litre Prado before you buy. Around $30,000 with 100,000 plus on the clock.

Re: 3400lt Prado
Used to own a 1997 Prado RV6 and towed a 17'6" Regent poptop which weighed approx 1,900 kgs.
Average fuel consumption whilst towing was 16 - 17 ltrs / 100 klms. Always towed in fourth gear (manual) at 90 - 95 kph.
Up any decent size hill you were back to 2nd gear but apart from that it was a good vehicle. Towed van for approx 60,000 klms with it and never had any trouble with it.
Vehicle was bought new and it was sold in 2005. Only problem in that time was the starter motor, which had to be reconditioned.
The standard long range fuel tanks (159 ltrs) were also great as it enabled you to by pass some of the dearer places for fuel.
