REGISTRATION - NSW VS VIC
Hi all We are in NSW & we have an Expanda 2009 model we are selling this van and have bought a Jayco Sterling 21' off a guy in VIC, to which we are leaving in a couple of days to pick up... Our query is why do we pay $295 to register our van in NSW...and yet on the rego papers for the new van in VIC it costs $37.40...WHAT!!!! This is outrageous...think we might have to move states...hubby's Mum lives in SA and were wondering what the prices there are like??? We could use her addy to register the van... Just really unhappy about the fact there is such a difference... Gary & Sheree

G'day Gary and Sheree, From memory, I think we paid $54 last year, but it's around there anyway, can't see why you couldn't use your Mum's address to register your van here. Frank

Re: REGISTRATION - NSW VS VIC
It's not the only Vic/NSW rego disparity. A fellow vanner in Port Lincoln approached me about my 3 letter tug number plate. Doesn't sound right does it... all letters but still called a number plate. He said his NSW 3 letter plate had recently risen to an annual fee of $440 so he cancelled it. This is on top of the order fee of $110. So $550 the first year and $440 every year thereafter just to keep the plate. I explained that my Vic plate cost $395 in 1995 but it is a one-off charge and now I own the plate forever with no further fees. Now work out that Vic/NSW disparity over 2 or 3 decades.

Re: REGISTRATION - NSW VS VIC
Hi there,
If you register your van at an address in another state, such as Victoria, to get cheaper rego, MAKE SURE YOU CLEAR IT WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY IN WRITING.
Making your Insurer aware of the situation, may avoid any problems with a claim.

Re: REGISTRATION - NSW VS VIC
Thanks everyone...we are going to stick to registration in our own state at the moment because it may cause some problems with our insurance and we don't want that at all, really doodooty though it is such a rip off with everything in NSW...

Re: REGISTRATION - NSW VS VIC
I will say it again . If you are a pensioner in NSW you don't have to pay rego. if you have the tug in one partners name and the van in the other . You get one free vehicle registration per person .
