hi guys me & luvy are new to this part of the forum
has any one had the problem of portable solar panels been stolen
from your site when your not around and if so any ided's
how to aviod this from happening

We never leave temptation out. The panels are locked inside van or else our 4 legged travel insurance is left within reach of them.

When I got my solar panels, I enlarged a hole in the frame to take a large padlock. Went to a rigging shop that sold wire slings and chains. They made up a length of stainless steel wire with a loop at either end. I padlock one end to the panel and one end to the A frame.
I know locks only keep honest people out, but that wire wont cut easily.

I am also concerned re leaving my solar out in the open working for us while we are away. Same can be said for the Gennie and the Washing machine ( w.m. not built in) I will follow the lead of Brian.
It is a bummer when you can not leave your possessions unattended. But at least the Lock is some sort of a deterrant . I have visited Super chief and Auto Barn looking for a heavy steel type bike lock and chain with the combo lock. But can not find any.Times like these when a watch dog would come in handy.

Sign of the times we live in, if they want em they will take em.

I picked up a lock from the local push bike shop.
Its made of strands of wire that choke a hack saw and have to be cut individually with bolt cutters, wasn't too expensive but don't know if it'll work but sounded impressive! Then again no ones pinched my stuff so...

Locks only stop honest people.

I have a 18v cordless grinder that will take care of most things and if you use a brass padlock a cordless drill and a 1/8 bit will have it open in 30 seconds.

So what are you saying Rolex, that we should leave everything unlocked, so that people like you dont have to use cordless grinders and drills.

No what I am saying you can try but if they wan't it it will be gone.

I have never found a small cable that can't be cut with axe and a brick, lay your cable over a brick and hit it with a small axe, one or two hits and it's gone, most vanners would carry a small axe. there are alarm systems that can be adapted, they will deter but not stop.
