Anyone been there? Im just curious, a guy I know who is quite elderly now tells me that he used to work at Woomera back in the day and they used to fly out that way for reasons unknown and the area used to glow at night with a faint phosphorescence…
Not like that now and tours operate; http://www.maralingatours.com.au/

Been to a few places out that way

Nothing like having to sign a waiver in case I die from unexploded ordnance, or being stuck working out there for weeks because the guy due to relieve you was from a little village in PNG and didn’t know when he was born, delaying his security clearance a little bit.

It’s all pretty clean now, there’s an interesting story about some old P51 Mustangs that were recovered from out there, one of them flown!

maralinga is like a tv set for starwars or so. houses built into the sides of cliffs without bricks etc, just whatever they can get hold of. a small front yard extending ut from a sheer cliff wall thats part of their house. honestly youre on another planet..

GO VISIT Folks.all bitumen road n its not far out of woomera [east of].we did it a few times but in our family falcon n van.no issues.

The whole city of Adelaide was as well… The monitored the fallout cloud coming down over the city but decided it was more interesting not to warn anyone and see what happened.

That is not all that service personnel were exposed to.

The father in law who served in New Guinea tells me that they were used to test drugs as well.

If it was needle day, he would rush to get as far forward in the que as possible.

Reason being that they only used one needle so it was good to get it while still reasonably sharp, otherwise they almost had to hammer it in.

The things that he had to do for his free overseas travel.

They were still doing that during the Vietnam war… One huge graduated syringe, one needle wipe the needle with alchohol between victims…. You could do an entire platoon with 2 syringes and 2 needles…
