Post Caravan Covers ..Good or Bad
I was told that fitting a cover to your caravan is not such a good thing,I have been informed that the heat build up is so intense between the cover and the roof that it softens/damage plastic and cracks any sealer that has been applied and as a consequence lets in moisture.

I have just fitted one to my van ($1200) and I now feel that I should take it off.

Anyone got any thoughts or advice on this?

I fitted one and am very happy. I haven't noticed any heat build up.
My main reason was to protect my awning from UV degradation. I was told by Dometic agent that they have a life span of 5-6 years so , at $800 a pop I want better life than that. My last one started delaminating while heading up the Pacific highway last year.
What I appreciate is that I have a bright and shiny van with clean windows everytime I head out.

I'd keep it on if only for UV protection. That's what damages the vinyl seals and silicones.

clear two.
Simple and cheap solution to protect rolled up awning as advised by my annexe supplier.
He supplied me with a 4.4 metre length of annexe track (SLIDING)that I attached to the top
of the van.He is now making me a vinyl cover 4.4 x 600mm with eyelets to secure to under
the van.
he advised that whilst the van can be washed regulary, the vinyl awning will deteriate quicker
when open to all conditions.
Easy on and off.
Hope this gives you another alternative.

Re my previous post.

Just picked up my vinyl cover to day (4.4x600mm)
Slides in rail I fitted to van roof to protect rolled up awning.
Works great. Total cost $50.00.

We have a Prestige 'van cover. But it won't protect a 'van against hail.
Just before heading of on a 3 month trip in 09, I took the cover off & much to my disappointment, the front & near side were hail damaged from a previous storm.
There is a more expensive thick vynil cover that sells for about $1k. It came on the market after we bought our cover !
