Post Dometic fridge not working on 12v
Hi, we have the large 224lt Dometic AES fridge in our van, only 10 months old. It has worked extremely well even in the hot weather up in FNQ. We are on the road fulltime and yesterday noticed that on our trip from Melbourne to Mildura the fridge did not cool. It was an extremely hot drive up with temps in the low to mid 30's. When hooked up to mains elec it was fine and cooled down overnight. Again today on a 400km journey we noticed that it was not cooling. Checked the connections etc and all is good.
We will be in SA (Streaky Bay) for a bit, who can we call to attend to the fridge?
Thanks for your help
Minnette

Hi Minnette
Since it is still i the warranty period,I would suggest you contact Dometic for an authorised service agent.

Hi Minnette,
Does sound like a warranty problem but if it is difficult to get it checked I would suggest for starters to remove the fridge back outside cover (on LHS turn the plastic screw 90 degress to release cover), probably the bottom outside cover and with a multi meter or a 12V light globe and a couple of wires check that you have 12V on the 12V element with fridge selected to 12V.

Note:do not do this with the van connected to 240V only connected to the tow vehicle with the engine running as you could easily mistake the 240V element for the 12V one.

If you have 12V on the element wires and it is not hot it is burnt out (need new element), if you don’t have 12V could be the vehicle connection plug and socket or something wrong with the fridge 12V control and if that’s the case find a service centre for warranty work.

P.S. if the element is burnt out you will still need to find a warranty place anyway but you will know what the problem is. Heater elements could be about $60 to $100.
