Apps for keeping track of fuel consumption, expenses etc

Post by HarryN » Sat May 23, 2015 11:25 pm

Just wondering what apps (or other methods) people are using to keep track of expenses?

"Long Hand", is what it is called.
Just rule up a pages in the diary for fuel, along with other expense items and use the info for future reference and to tell people who are doing the same trip.

Welcome here Harry :)

For fuel I use this.... http://candm.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?p=62485#p62485

PS - Glannie prefers the steam age  but at least his diary can't develop a glitch and it can be backed up simply with a camera ;-)

Thank you so much for your replies. I did giggle at the longhand - it might just be the one I continue to use despite all the electronic aids, lol!

I have found that keeping a small diary in the glovebox works best for me too. I write down absolutely everything we spend on a trip in it and its always handy and its simple to do, even my husband can do it! I tried doing it on my tablet one trip, found it less convenient for us.

Later after the trip is over I use this to fill in an Excel spreadsheet which is divided into sections for fuel, accomodation, food, tourist attractions and miscellaneous. I find it handy for comparing costs of different trips and planning future ones.

One day maybe I'll find an app thats as convenient and easy to do as longhand, but so far I haven't.

Thanks, Azhure. I think I might continue with pen & paper this trip, too.
Just haven't been able to find "the" app for me... Maybe I should develop one, lol?!

Pen and paper are always the first step. I don't carry my laptop on my lap into a servo and punch fuel numbers in as they occur.

In my spreadsheet I specifically included a proforma to be printed and used with a pen during refuelling. It prompts for info. Then later on, assisted by a glass of red, that data can be punched into your poota.

Thanks, Old Techno - try as I might, I can't seem to see your spreadsheet - the link just keeps taking me to the forum post?
