Post Bad Tasting Cuppa Remedy
We are new to the forum, but would like to share a remedy for bad tasting cuppa's.
When visiting Albany WA recently, staying in a CP, using their water, the cuppa tea was horrid.
We were advised to fill the kettle from the hotwater tap rather than the cold and it worked a treat.
This might work in other areas.

We installed a small filter on the tap.
It is a Brita brand and has 3 settings on it where you can turn the water off the filter when washing up etc. Much cheaper than an inline filter for all water. This works for us and filters all tastes and smells.

Big W have them (thats where I got mine from).
It is called a tap filter (I think) and has 3 settings. straight water from the line, water from the line in a spray, filtered water.
Great.
Let me know if you have trouble getting one and I will sus it out further.
Good luck

Hi Jan & Geoff,
Sorry but I cannot follow your advice on using hot water from the hot water service. It is generally a bad practice to use the hot water for consumption purposes. And should never be used to formulate baby formulas etc.

One reason is that hot water units accumulate a concentration of heavy metals. This quite apart from the anode decaying over time,Which alone is not a pretty sight. Boiling water units and hot water units are a collecting point for lots of nasties due to the water being evaporated off,or due to settlement in the tank.Travelling along can mix the ingredients and we get it out of the tap.

Also they may have dangerous bacteria due to constant warming and cooling of the water,so it pays to be careful. Most heat to between 60 to 70 degrees only.

What happens in a lot of cases is that when we come into a town that has bad water, The hot water system may be still full of water from the previous town, and taste ok. Have a couple of showers however and when that hot water is used up it can resemble the stuff you started with. A good idea if folk don't have a dedicated fresh water tank is to carry a 10 litre quality plastic can filled with good tasting water and keep it for good cuppa time.
Obviously the boiling water urns which are well maintained and the water changed regularly would be ok.
Sorry if I am ruining your tea break.
