Brain Dead
Thaught I would tell of experience I had in C/Park in Roma this week. Saw a caravan with annex out resting on poles earlier in the day Owner sitting with occupants of van behind them. Very dark storm approaching, so I rolled up my annex and put away loose items in preparation for the forth coming storm. What preparation did they do NOTHING end result. The annex was blown over the top of the caravan breaking one of their supports. I surpose they will now claim storm damage on their insurance due to their own stupidity. really cant understand how some of these new caravan owners think. Burce

I suppose they take the same precautions when pulling a caravan.

Lucky there wasn't more damage done and thankfully no one was hurt! Takes all kinds to make the world spin huh. Cheers, Nola.

Brain Dead People?
I know it is difficult for some people to approach people in a Caravan park sometimes but did anyone inform him(even in passing) that it might be a good idea to roll up the annexe with the storm coming? I think it was mentioned it was a new van or new caravan owner so they may have appreciatted the advice? If the bloke who was involved is reading this now, he will be even more embarrassed.. I do not think we are all born caravan savvy.. Another cheap shot at someone elses expense. I think the advice from this is to put your annexe away in high winds as Solarman has seen one blow off a caravan..

this is something i wouldn't have known if i didn't have tent experience. I know commonsense plays a part but experience does as well, i wouldn't call it stupidity.
When we first tented i saw tents which should have nearly been indestructible blow away or be damaged. It's personal opinion and choice too. Last time i was in Mildura it got really rough, i pulled the annex down because it only takes a light breeze to crush it yet for a full park only one other van (within eyeshot) did the same. I didn't see anyone take on any damage but there was certainly a lot of flapping and clunking around. I suppose at times there is a fine line between the opinion of how much it can take. People might be turned off vanning if they knew someone was taking the piss out of "new" vanners on the internet and calling them stupid rather than putting it down to personal choice and/or inexperience. If no one ever made a mistake no one would ever learn a single thing would they?
Stupidity is sideburns, because even though history says they are foul, some people are still so stupid to think it's all the rage...

I guess its all a learning experience, while we might think it stupid, they obviously had not have realized the damage that could be done. I did not know to tie the awning down with tent pegs etc until I was talking to a guy in Port Augusta on our first trip almost 3 years ago. He had lost an awning in a freak storm and it took the roof of the van with it!!! They had a nice new van though

I would have approached the guy and asked him if he was aware of the approaching storm and offered assistance rather than just watch it happen. It is a good chance to make new friend and foster a comradeship with fellow campers that makes caravanning so attractive to us as opposed to staying in a Motel.
