Post G'day We are new to the forum
Hi we are just starting out again and have just enjoyed a short trip up to Echuca to settle in our little pop-top. Everything was fine other than we could not use our TV due to u/s ariel. We saw many different types af antenna around the park and an even bigger selection in the magazine and dealers. As a couple of more senior travellers we enjoy some TV and would like to know the best type to buy given we shall be taking to the road often in the very near future and feel current travellers would know best.
Many Thanks Goody

Hi and welcome to the forum Goody.
You could use a satellite dish or I also use a :
www.foldawayantenna.com.au/

They fold up into a tube for storage and are good for us.
There are a number of antennae around so I'm sure others will have their favourites.
Cheers

I have a funny story about T.V.arial's ...5 years ago we were staying at East's caravan Park at Kiama and I was using the arial that I had made from a set of rabbit ears and a length of tube that I had at home (love making my own stuff )..It worked fine for about 5 years and never had a problem ...until we stayed at Kiama no matter how I adjusted it crap picture and what made it worse the guy next to me in a Jayco dove camper had a perfect picture ..Their T V. was in the annexe and every time I walked past their was Poppy and the grand kids watching a perfect picture ..HMMMM.....I noticed the antenna he had on his camper and went to Dick Smith's and bought one ..... still crap picture took it back and they gave me another one still a crap picture ..Took that one back too and they said you need a booster so I bought one ..I set it all up and turned everything on... AND ...Still a crap picture ,Out of sheer frustation I stormed next door and said ...HOW COME YOU HAVE SUCH A GREAT PICTURE .....He said ...............D.V.D 's ........I can still hear him laughing till this day ....And what made it worse I had chucked my homemade one in the bin and it was gone ???..maybe someone is still using it today ..I found out afterwards that because the Park is in a valley T.V reciption was Poor ..........Why didn't they tell me ..Lol.....My wife still laugh;s about it today ....Moral of the story don't blame the arial all the time

I totally agree with you Labrat. The worst place we have been so far is Narrandera. We could get 3 vhf channels and no digital. The people all around us had the same trouble. One guy with one of those saturn antennas had never had trouble til he got there. We will go sattelite when the funds allow it.

As mentioned, there are a few aerials to chose from.
We had a traveller type, purchased at the van show a few years back. It was the one with the built in booster, and worked very well most areas that had signal.
Have been researching satellite and my thoughts are;
It's not cheap.
It is bulky.
You still only get "free to air"
Unless you have "pay to view", & that is costly.
It depends on how desperate you are to watch telly all the time.
As Labrat suggests, watch a DVD, and drive the neighbours crazy with your "perfect picture".
I can't justify the expense to go satellite, at this time.
When on the road full time, might revisit.
Just my thoughts.

TV or not TV. That is the Q.?
I believe that the only way to get a great reception is via a Sat. Dish.
Shop around for info and best price, but we set ourselves up with a brand new dish and inverter thus allowing us to watch Foxtel and 5 free to air channels.
Our cost was approx $300. and when you equate that over say 3 years it is only $2 a week for perfect reception.

P.M. me for further info or email at:- [email protected]

Cheers

Hi Delar,
Is that cost all up?
Does it include ongoing foxtel fees?
