Just a question on security I am sure someone will be able to answer.
What do you do with your folding solar panels when you are away from camp.

I haven't done it yet but im pacing those corner solar panel mounts that Chicko is importing and when i leave camp im going to place them in and secure they fit on top of van.Also i have to get in touch with insurance company to see if a solar mount attached to van is part of your insurance.I was going to get the portable but have decided on a normal 120w panel with two folding legs attached.as pointed out to me with the folding panel the regulator etc that they come with isnt very good quality and a waste of money.Cheers Neil

I drilled a hole in the frame of the folding solar panel , I know, cut through the
frame

then using a stainless steel multi strand cable from a ships chandler had two loops fitted , using some super clamper they have , you cannot break the loop without special tools , grinder etc


then using two padlocks , hook one end to the panel and one to the van

probably make it's only more difficult , but if the crooks want it badly enough they will take it no matter what

I had the 240w portable solar panels and found them a nuisance to carry around in the back seat of the car all the time. On a recent trip to WA we didn't even use them.
Anyway, I ended up taking the two panels apart and bolting them to the roof of our pop top and buying a better quality regulator. They are now permanently fitted and operational. Don't have to think about deploying them at camp sites any more.

I was in the coast to coast agent in Echuca and he had a lock

ss cable with a lock etc

if the cable was cut an alarm went off , just for those who want a little more

If you go to ebay and type in wireless burglar alarm you will find heaps, even as low as $1.40 with free postage, the ones I like are a two part system, stick one side (use that 3m stuff) to the panel and put a short lead on the other and pin it to the ground with a tent peg, when they go to move the panel the magnets will separate and set the alarm off, if the magnets are too strong to separate easy just put some tape or cadboard over the magnets.

Won't stop them but will draw attention.

The motion detector ones give too many false alarms.

PS; Buy a few they can be used on heaps of stuff.

The lock was about the size of a chocolate box
