Post Condensation in 'van
G'day one & all,
Friends of ours are having major condensation problems (in winter) in there Windsor Rapid Pop Top.

It's that bad over night,there doona on the bed is wet from condensation.

I have suggested the following. 1. They run there air con o/night to absorb moisture, but there reluctant to do that. (to noisy)
2. Leave more windows open, but it's to cold in winter !

Any suggestions out there !

1. I wonder if painting the roof with thermal paint might help.
2. For a quick fix is it possible to put a fly over the pop top at night.

A few ideas for them to consider:

Ensure they close up their van well before nightfall to avoid the cold moist air, which will make condensation worse, from entering the van;

Keep the van warm during the day to keep the air inside relatively dry;

Consider some silica gel packs that absorb moisture hooked up somewhere near their beds - http://www.dampsolutions.com.au/catalog/index.php/cPath/6;

Consider a small dehumidifier that can run overnight.

Cheers.

Mike

A couple of years ago we were in the caravan ( poptop ) at Bathurst in June and it was freezing ,when we woke up all the codensation dripping from the roof and the aluminiun angle where the pop top closes up to were frozen solid ,IT was like sleeping in a freezer ,Heavy breathing is definately a problem and because it was so cold every thing was closed up tight .I was talking to a caravan repairer the other day and he told me aluminium frame vans are worse than wooden framed ones as the aluminiun frame gets much colder causing the condensation ...he said ventilation is the only way to reduce the problem ..cheers Bob...

G'day Labrat, Sorry but my sense of humour gets the better of me sometimes

How can you do so much heavy breathing, when everything is closed up tight :D :D :D

We found that leaving the zip up vents in the pop top helps with the condensation, and it doesn't make any difference to the temperature, just leave the top of each vent open so that there is an air flow but the rain (if any) doesn't come in.

Love your work..:rolleyes: ...I suppose I am lucky as I have found the key that opens up those tight places.....But yes you are 100% correct about leaving the flaps (no pun intended ) a little open to help ventilation ...Cheers ...Bob...

we purchased an oil heater and leave it on low all night ,with one window slightly open and also the zipper(only a bit though) in the poptop above the sink in the kitchen

we tend to use the aircon /heating before going to bed ,then pop the oil heater on just befor jumping in the cot
we now dont get any condensation at all and the van stays nice and toasty all night
apparently poptops are renowned for condensation in the colder weather
lots of people in the caravan club we belong to use them as well

I used to have the same problem many moons ago in my EH Panel van at drive in. Could never work out what caused it, or what the movie was about.
