OT,
Going by the panel above I inserted “800 x 600” for the first one and hit “OK”, correct? But where is the new/modified image located.
The second one I posted was as if I was sending it as an attachment to an email, then dragged it onto the desktop and posted it here.
The system I used previously allowed me to resize in a drop down from an image after right clicking on it. It seem to work but that facility is not available on Win 10.

You rang Glannie?

There is a limit on the pics themselves. The file size needs to be no more that 512 kb. That is generous enough.

I would disagree as now days there are smart phones, Ipads taking photos and they are a lot bigger than 512Kb so forums need to now accommodate these devices.
I have see some forum that automatically resize picture files.

If you are talking about Irfanview…. you need to hit the save button and it will go where you want it. Once done all future saves will go to the same place.

You mentioned dragging so I tried finding a jpg to post using Windows Explorer and dragged and dropped it rather than use the orange Attachments tab. So drag and drop works and cuts out using the Attachments tab and the Add file tab. In fact I found I could select 5 pics and drag them all over together in one go.

When I am preparing some pics for the forum I find them from wherever then resize and save them all in another spot ready to post. So they are already the correct size.

Engel,

My camera has been taking 5 meg pic files for years. I always have it set at max file size for max resolution. However when the pic is reduced to 900 pixels as the forum max it is also reduced to around 300 kb. That’s why I say 512 kb is generous enough.

I assume there is a forum file size limit of 512 kb and not 5 mb to avoid the need for a 10 times larger file storage medium.

I don’t usually give up when confronted with something like this, but in this case I will.
I could not find a save button on my version of Irfanview.
There must be a simpler way of doing this so I will concentrate on finding same.
Thanks anyway OT; you tried and I was trying.

With Irfanview don’t you get a screen like this?

After resizing you can save by clicking on the disc icon pointed to by the red arrow.

There is a close up underneath…

Running Windows 10, I just right click on photo, open with, paint, top left is pixels, then change pixels to 900 if landscape or vice versa if portrait, click X top right and it gives you the option to save changes or not.
If I have a large amount of pics which I did for the Yamba trip, I copy the folder and use the copy for changing file sizes for web use etc.

Trying again and able to have the file converted to 900 x 598 x 24 bpp.
I have saved it but can’t find out where it is to transfer it to here; f*****g frustrating.

Glannie, you are hard work

When you click on save you tell it where to save.
