South Australia’s Limestone Coast

South Australia’s Limestone Coast is truly one of a kind. Its epic beauty is a result of two factors: the limestone bed it sits on top of, and volcanic activity that has created a perfectly sculptured landscape for travellers to revel in. In this trip, we explore this small but extraordinary area in the south-east corner of South Australia. Kicking things off in Mount Gambier, we adventure through the town’s many volcanic creations, from caves to sinkholes, and even take a tour of the famous and mystifying Blue Lake! Next, we head south to Port MacDonnell, the southernmost point of the South Australian mainland and home to the cottage of our celebrated poet Adam Lindsay Gordon. From here we head west up the coast through the beautiful seaside towns of Beachport, Robe, and Kingston SE. What trip would be complete without finding unique Australian things, and so we stumble upon a Big Lobster and a working emu farm. Completing our loop, we venture east to Naracoorte and visit the mammoth Naracoorte National Park cave system, and then cap things off with a tour through Penola, Mary MacKillop’s old stomping ground. This trip is short but very sweet, and well worth a look for yourself!
