Another Shameless Money-grab?

Capture

I’m all for the conservation of Australia’s iconic natural attractions, and I’ll always happily chip in for preservation or restoration efforts - as long as I know where the money is going! There are few things more frustration than money-grabbing ploys disguised as something else.

It could be soon be that RVers will be charged $10 to visit the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. A proposal for the fee to go towards improvements and maintenance is before parliament.

One can only wonder if this is the precursor to other attraction site fees in Victoria or whether other states might adopt similar policies.

Someone wrote that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance so it’s best to treat such fees as important and to let your opinions be known. After all, we each contribute $500 on average per week as we travel through various regional communities and should RVers boycott a region - we know that the knock-on effect is often catastrophic.

I think avoiding the region altogether, in retaliation to proposed site fees would do little to combat to the fees themselves but would rather just harm innocent local communities along the GOR - that’s not what RVing is all about.

What do you think? Would you cross off the 12 Apostles from your list of “must-see” attractions, or leave out the Great Ocean Road altogether?
