Could I please get some suggestions for caravan parks in Adelaide. I see where there has been a post previously but it was back in 2010 so thought it might be better to get some updated comments. It might be nice to be near the beach but not the be all and end all. Maybe within striking distance of getting public transport into Adelaide to get a city fix. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you don’t want to go "surfing", you don’t need a beach.
Adelaide will never have a beach as we know them on the east coast of the country.
I would suggest you stay at the Gawler caravan park and go out from there. It is basically central to the Barossa, City and the Hill district.
This is from my experience having lived there and recently visited the area.

this might be too far out for you, but Pt Willinga tourist park (it’s now a big 4 but I think it’s still quite easy going) we are 45km from the city but with Trains not far and buses at the door the city is not far even driving, in peak hour takes just under an hour.

There is a nice mix of beaches and vines, only 1/2 an hour away from Victor Harbor and 45 minutes to Strathalbyn and Hahndorf

Hi Davine,
We stayed at the Big 4 Marion Caravan Park on Sturt St, Marion. It is a typical Big 4 – all the bells and whistles, kids, not pet friendly and i thought very expensive. If this is what you are after then this is for you. It is about 30mins to Adelaide CBD. The park is clean, well serviced. There is a height restriction when entering the park. We are 3.2mtrs high and had to enter via the exit as the entrance awning is lower than this. Overall the park is great, but for me and what we are looking for abit on the overpriced side. From a service perspective, they were great.

Hows this for an idea?
Gawler is north of Adelaide and as I said close to the Barossa and the Hills district; the rail to the city is just 200 metres from the caravan park. Make sure you have the burger and chips at the Harndorf Hotel-if your game.
Then…go south to Franks area at Aldinga and check out that kneck of the woods; the wines are good there and Victor Harbour is one place that is not to be missed.

Brown Hill Creek would be another park to consider it is just on the out skirt of the suburb of Mitcham and the park is only about a 10min walk for buses in to town
paulip’s suggestion is a good one. Public transport at door with a major shopping centre is 1.7km down the road (Westfield Marion) 16 minutes walk or 7 minutes via bus (W90, G10 and 720H)
The suggestion of young Frank and Brenda (they live on the wrong side of town) is also excellent as there is plenty to do down that neck of the woods and if you have no need to go into the city centre you do have a major shopping centre called Colonnades
You might also like to consider the Adelaide CP at Hackney. pub is great and it is a pleasant walk through park land to the centre of the city

How to use your Seniors Card on public transport

Just touch your Seniors Card to the validator when you board before 7:01am, between 9.01am to 3:00pm and after 7:00pm weekdays or all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays for a free trip.
You’ll also need to touch your Seniors Card on the gates when entering and exiting Adelaide Railway Station.
Travelling outside these times

If you travel between 7:01am to 9:00am and 3:01pm to 7:00pm weekdays simply add value ($) to your Seniors Card or purchase a Concession singletrip metroticket onboard a bus, train or tram.
Adelaide Metro InfoCentre
You can recharge your Seniors Card at any Adelaide Metro InfoCentre or metrocard agent or using any ticket vending machine.

Interstate Seniors Card holders

Anyone who holds a valid Seniors Card from any Australian State or Territory is eligible for FREE Adelaide Metro public transport Monday to Friday before 7:01am, between 9:01 to 3:00pm, and after 7:00pm and all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
Simply visit an Adelaide Metro InfoCentre, show your interstate Seniors Card and you will be issued with a temporary metroticket which will be valid for a maximum of 14 days.

That was very interesting information and hopefully you can repeat it every now and again as some pensioners need reminders of concessions. I wish we had the same here in South East Qld.
Although we get a concession, it is still not as good yours; free!

For nimda: is there some way this type of info could be repeated every six months automatically; now there is a challenge for the IT persons.

We stay at Adelaide Shores and find it very handy with Glenelg, and Harbortown within five minute drive. Easy access down the hills, take Crossroads, Anzac highway and then Tapleys Hill Rd. Easy access to beach, walking paths, golf course, bus out the front into town, and the list goes on.
