Fred’s trip to the Cape.

Post by Dove » Sat Nov 21, 2015 6:40 pm

I purchased the latest mag I think. The DVD in the package was Fred taking a on road van to the Cape. I notice that the Sunland is replaced by a big Crusader. I was interested to see the roads and caravan parks along the way. Even though you were led to believe Fred took the van to the Cape he actually stopped at Bramwell. He then asked a bloke to take him the rest of the way to the Cape. From then you didnt see much until we see our intrepid traveller at the sign on the tip. Did he fly there?
That is a trip I would love to do. Why cant you C&M people produce some serious travel information?

In the interim, this Youtube Cape York and Beyond 2015, while not with a caravan, gives an overview of FNQ and a trip to the Cape and all there is to see.
This information was brought to you by Australia so Much to See. See this and more on an informative travel website

Dove,
Sane people don’t take their caravans to the Tip.
If you are thinking of going there leave your van at Mt Carbine, Mareeba, Cairns, or Cooktown, etc and take a tent.
You will enjoy the experience much better, especially if you intend traversing all or part of the Old Telegraph Track.
The ” Caravan Parks” along there are just camp grounds with minimal facilities so don’t expect to much.

Dove if you wish to leave your van . Lakelands van park is good spot sa next stop is Laura on way to cape. as for Fred on that trip there are no museums, craft shops or wineries .or free lunch.seems not much interest in this forum these days.

You are correct Grey Fox. I wonder why there is not much interest these days.
It’s a shame, because there are so many members out there with so much information that would benefit so many others and vice versa.
Perhaps it’s time for change at C&M.

Hi Motherhen,
As always, great input from you re the viewing of the 36 minute video.
What an exciting trip it would be, but I think I am getting to old for that sort of adventure.

best way top see the Cape is leave your Van at Cooktown and fly the rest of the way. Its seriously too adventurous, the corrugations are about 250mm high and 300mm pitch… Great if you really want to try out your suspension
Get an Ultra light each and fly there along the coast….

Deanus,
The site is OK it is just that some people on the forum have lost their sense of humour.
Although we like to think we have a particular talent base to answer and put forward information to help others, there is also the informality that makes it unique.
Also, some need to “get a life”.
Ask a question, get an answer; if not ask again as some of us like to have a Nana nap occasionally, OK?
