Looks like a top spot Diesel, thanks for the info and pictures. Will put that in the book of places to go when I venture into Victoria.

Re: Upper Dargo Victoria
Thanks friends, Rainey,we didn;t spend much time in the town and the meuseum was closed, but we could see a fair bit of mining equipment out side. Loved the general store and artefacts.

Re: Upper Dargo Victoria
yeah its a good place ,many years ago we used to go at easter before it got to popular, there was a dance in the hall on the saturday night ,and people came from the hills all around not many outsiders like now the ladies of the district supplied supper and what a supper it was
back then a lot of the locals only came into town a few times a year, very quiet people they were but lovely to talk too boy I could tell you some stories about those hills and the people who lived in them at one time the walnuts were fiercely guarded with shot guns ,even the walnut trees growing on roadsides ,trust me it isnt good to be picking up a few fallen ones to look up and see a double barrel pointing straight at you hopefully its calmed down a bit now
a lot of unusual things used to go on in those hills
back then outsiders werent trusted easily ,it took us quite a few years of goind there to be accepted by the locals
I have a friend who has a house there so can just about go stay anytime so all good now

Re: Upper Dargo Victoria
Dargo has a great Easter festival. Another great place to camp is Talbotville. Free camping with drop toilets only. Not suitable for caravans, but we took a Jayco Off Road Camper in several years ago. I’m interested in Upper Dargo, but now we have a 19’6" van (internal). Would it be OK to take a large van into there? Cheers MOOREY

Hey Rainey, when you went into Talbotville, did you go through Grant, or the way in through the river crossings. When I’ve gone the river way you couldn’t take even a 6×4 trailer through. However the way through Grant suited a trailer or small camper. The road is steep in places, windy and only one lane. SO it pays to go in on a quiet day, and radio ahead in case someone is coming at you. Cheers MOOREY

Re: Upper Dargo Victoria
hi moorey we have been every which way into talbotville via grant and down collingwood spur track also through howittville and winchester via crooked river plus the river crossings via bulltown spur track , we found at the time macmillans track was really good and two wheel drive all the way oh yeah radio ahead and hope like hell they are listening or have a radio most tracks are only one lane (like you said) and narrow http://www.abcmaps.com.au/photogallery/ … /Dargo.htmhttp://www.ronshirl.net/Crooked%20River.htm
