
Yes, I had to replace an element in our old original metal, Chescold unit. cost = $150. from memory. Not bad, as the unit was over 15 years old at the time.
One of the newer, moulded plastic bodied units also packed up out at Birdsville but the problem was diagnosed as being caused by my, so called, mechanic carrying out some really shonky electrical work on the Tug prior to the trip….He compensated me. I was assured by the fridge bloke that it wouldn’t have happened normally. Also, they need to be kept level, especially on gas. No problem with being bumped around in the car…movement keeps the refrigerant circulating.
