Condition Reports - Cameron Corner

December 15th, 2010

Friday, 28th January 2011

All roads to us are still closed, with the exception of Tibooburra to Cameron Corner (open with caution). But we've been having very hot and drying weather, so it shouldn’t be long - but of course from Queensland there will still be detours around the water near Naryilco. Biggest problem in the coming months is the Darling and Murray flooding.

Wilcannia to Broken Hill has reopened but speed limit of 40kmh and only light vehicles. By the time this comes out this may have changed. No one ever recalls seeing that section flood before. We have enjoyed the added rain but the mice are going berserk! Any travellers will need to check their vehicles’ wiring etcetera if camping in the Western regions.

Any way all is good and the Cooper is getting another good flow.

The fee for bush camping is a $5 donation per vehicle to RFDS. We have powered sites and accommodation also. We generally have more than ample fuel and have always had bread and milk available.

Well, we wish all a safe outcome to the floods across the country. We have roads closed here again and are expecting another four inches or more of rain by the weekend. We had 40ml on Monday night already, so of course yet again the roads are closed and maybe for some weeks.

We had 25 stalwart adventurers for New Years Eve here from overseas and around Australia, but because of rain did not hang around and a few other adventurers coming through, but thankfully none now. 2010 was a stressful year with hoping travellers would heed advice being given to them with the road and rain conditions. I urge everyone to heed the warnings, because the conditions across the State are out of the norm and no one can be certain of what dangers are around the corner – literally!

Again, best wishes to all and I’m certain that all will get through this and rebuild with support and help.

Merty Merty to Cameron Corner is closed due to rain, as are other roads. Always keep up to date on road conditions when travelling.

You can only get in to us from NSW south at the moment. Everything else is closed due to the rain. We are in Far North Queensland at the moment and we're not sure which way we are going to get in. Not much rain predicted any more, though.
