Post Lake Macquarie over Xmas
Hello Listers,

We are heading off up to Lake Macquarie for Xmas and we were wondering whether anyone has any ideas for things to do. We will be staying at the BIG 4 Lake Macquarie Monterey. If there is anyone else staying there come say hello.

Bit far from Lake Maquarie to Port Macquarie (about 3 - 4 hours).

Maybe you could meet halfway

Both nice spots. Hope you both have a great Christmas.

Regards

Hi Drifters,
You have chosen a lovely spot to vacation. It is where I live, but we will be in Forster for the holiday period with our family. If you are into fishing, swimming boating and the weather gods are kind you will have a great time in a lovely park. There are plenty of other places for day trips. The Entrance is always good for a visit/surf/movies and shop. Fireworks at The Entrance for New Year are a must. Drive around the lake to Toronto and catch a boat ride. There are various options there. Of course the shopping is brilliant at Charlestown (if you want to visit a metropolis). Grocery shopping is best done at the mini mart in Manno, or if you need to grocery shop up big, head for Morriset where there is a new Woolies and an almost new Coles.
If you hang around until Australia Day, the locals head down to the point for a free brekkie and celebrations with all and sundry.
Enjoy our great town. We love it.

Sorry, Rod and Gail,
I forgot to ask when will you be here in God's own country?

When we go on the road, we really miss this place, so you will hopefully come back as an annual event now that you have found us!

Hi Kath & Frank,
If you are currently in this part of the world. you cant go past the bowlo at Lake Munmorah for a good feed and even the rsl at Toukley do a tasty meal. Neither is as cheap as the Doylo, but they both do beautiful food.
Enjoy the rest of your stay

Oh and dont forget about Hunter valley Gardens & the wineries at Pokolbin!!
There not too far plus as your there at xmas the light display will still be on.
01 January 2011 - 16 January 2011 is NSW Senior's Week too HVG.com .

Newcastle foreshore is also great to take some pictures and Darby street has loads of cafe's, restaurants that serve breakfast, lunch, dinners. look up Zinc cafe or even the Queens Wharf Brewery over looking the harbour.

Plenty of galleries around and Mt sugarloaf has awesome views to the ocean, great picnic ground, walking trails to do, even a easy 20 min one lol

hope ive been helpful

cheers Jan

Thanks to all who replied regarding our xmas holiday to Lake Macquarie. You have made us even more excited to get there. The next few days willl seem like they take forever. We will go to timbertown and can`t wait to catch a fish (positive thinking) and see the shops.

Hoping everyone on the forum has a great Xmas safe travelling

Sorry we have taken so long to reply but we have had quite a bit of work in the lead up to Christmas. We will be there Xmas eve and unfortunately have to leave 29th due to work committments
