I have some trouble with Vertigo, when i lay on my back the room starts to spin, i'm OK when i lay on either side or the head is upright.
Has anyone had this trouble? I haven't seen a doc about it yet, but i think i haft to.

Hans,

I'm a Techo not a Medico but physical position seems to indicate inner ear (balance) related.

I reckon the Doc is the next port of call ;-)

Hans,
When you get an attack do as I do; it may help.
1. Sit upright on the side of your bed.
2. Bend your neck and head towards your left shoulder, as far as you can. Then to the right shoulder all the time not allowing your head to droop forward.
3. Repeat until the attack has gone. It seems to readjust the inners of the head/balance
I hope this helps but if not, go to the Dr!

hans
my wife had vertigo a few years ago and the doctor at the time suggested she sit up straight on the
side of the bed and allow herself to fall sideways onto the bed
when she fell to the right her head was facing to the left and vice versa
she had to do this as much as she could and increase the number of time
this of course depends on why you have vertigo
I think they are called BRANDT DAROFF exercises for positions vertigo

that is the same excise the Doc gave to me and my Wife. But see your Doc.

Doc said it is common in the elderly, but not all causes are from the same source. I had an unknown ear infection once, caused by some sort of mould. A bit of cream fixed it. The exercises didn't work for me.
They did for my wife.

They say on the direction exercise sheet that if the exercise make you feel crook it is working.

But i can tell you it is a crap feeling. A case of the cure being worse than the fix.
I can't just lay my hands on the chart but I can have a look for it if you need to have a look at it.

A friend has it really bad and it is not going away quickly so some need more care than others.

We apparently have two puddles in the ear and one can be blocked as the duct in between is small and its the same as OT is saying. It is what causes sea sickness.
My doc didn't say it but I am wondering if sea sickness pills would help till you get to a quack.

Are you sure though....watching the vikings on tv, not a one gets sea sick except that crippled bloke.... :)
I now have to note that I cannot accept owners ship, truth, quality, or veracity, of articles I may quote off the internet.

When I have a similar symptom I do exactly as Glannie says.
Works for me

Thanks for all your suggestions, I will see the doc.

If there's a cure, and according to your replies there should be, the doc will work it out.

Thank you.

Suffered this after a long flight from Stockholm to Sydney. Six days in hospital. The medics thought I might be having a mini stroke but turned out to be Vertigo.

Three weeks ago same thing. Got up to get a drink of water when I felt dizzy and then faint. Ten minutes later began to throw up. Reminded me of sea sickness.

Ambulance and off to hospital for two nights while I had CT Scan and MRI. Have to see neurosurgeon in three weeks but no after effects.

My greatest concern is about what the RMS might say about my licence. I am a fairly young 74 year old.

You can go to a specialist physio that can manipulate your crystals in your ears that can cause the dizziness.Mother in law had it done.Peter
