Your most disliked roads/routes when towing

Post by TramcarTrev » Sun Aug 21, 2016 3:20 pm

Roads most disliked...
For me these are;
1. The Kings Hwy from Braidwood to Batemans Bay, anyone who had driven it towing will know why
2. Macquarie Pass, not only is it narrow, very windy and busy its very steep and the surface is quite ordinary.
3. The Great Western Hwy from Penrith to Lithgow, it’s a long, slow at places, steep suburban drive.
4. The Oxley Hwy, hardly a Highway more a goat track…
5. Brown Mountain, though I drive it regularly I still don’t like it and usually opt for the slightly longer but less intense route thru Bibbenluke to Cathcart and Mount Wyndham to the coast.
6. The short 8km length of Pennant Hills road that joins the M2 and the F3. The lanes are narrow and the trucks are intimidating… If I'm going to the North Coast I usually either go via Taralga, Bathurst, Mudgee, then onto the Golden Highway to Raymond Tce… Long way around but far easier drive and so much to see on the way…
There will be others and when you name yours I'll let you know if I have disliked them…

TT, I hate long, straight, flat, boring roads. Even freeways when towing at 110 kph. Give me something more interesting every time.

I quite enjoy Macquarie Pass. To me it is a challenge to go up without holding up traffic. I prefer going down and this is a brake management exercise and I love to use a combination of brake manual override, judiciously but often.

I see narrow winding roads as a test of care and precision whilst keeping up a good pace. I enjoy a bit of spice when towing. Perhaps this is why I enjoy Tassie roads :D

I dislike any road we have to use to get somewhere, moreso if in a hurry.
If we are cruising about then we don't need to use the road -so its generally a B road- and we can take our time. Busy freeways, city roads blah. Lonely country roads with a bit of curl, rise and fall, YAY!!
Vote 1 the Newell followed closely by the Hume for the above reasons.

Trucks on the Newel have a reputation too especially when following vans.

T/T 1.The Kings Hwy from Braidwood to Batemans Bay, anyone who had driven it towing will know why.
Ok, We just traveled the Bruxner Highway from the Bonolbo turn off to Tenterfield.
Plenty of climbs and hairpins to get to almost some 1000 meters above sea level.
Q. is the Kings Highway from Batesman Bay a lot worse than this section of the Bruxner H'way????

Ohhh the Bruxner is a lovely drive compared to the Kings between Braidwood and the Bay...

Actually neither are much fun....

They keep threatening to replace the Kings with a tollway as yet its not happened....

As I have posted some where else before:-
If you think the Kings Highway is a shocker, then do not .. I repeat do not take the Berry Mountain Road from Mossvale to Berry NSW. The Kings is a M1 in comparison.
Safe travels and above all avoid the Berry road.

Bruce Hwy, Warrego Hwy, The Gillies Range Road (Gordonvale south of Cairns to Yungaburra), Pennant Hills Road and the treacherous Moss Vale to Kangaroo Valley to Nowra.

OT, I guess you don't like the Nullarbor, the Stuart or the Barkly, west of Isa.
