Post Grandcruiser Caravans - Re Visited
Some time ago, on the Forum, a discussion re the origin of this brand resulted in a bit of disagreement. Some said they were locally produced in NSW others (myself included) thought they were made in China. From memory, Oz John finally stated that they were, indeed, made in China.
I have just noticed a full page ad in the latest edition of "Motorhome & Caravan Trader" magazine (p158) which clearly states that they are built in Australia.
Just curious...Are they or are they not made in China? Maybe they are imported in a 'Flat Pac'..
Any one Know?

Jock,
I just had a look at their web site, which states they stated making them in Australia in 2004.
Google maps including "street view" showing the address, does not indicate a factory or indeed a building where vans could be assembled.
I suppose one could email them on the pretext of wanting to inspect the factory with a view to buying a van.
The owner, I believe is David, may reveal all.
I must admit that they look good.

Hi jock and glanyard,
This was apparently a chinese beginning and doing well. Sort of reminds me of the old Pratt Liner which was a pretty good innovation in its day.

I believe they started off being made in Australia, then for a year or two the shells were made in China then fitted out in Australia. The quality of the units made in China wasn't very good, with leaks being very common.

They then reverted back to making them locally.

Please correct me but I read a while ago that they were making them in Cooma, at least some were.

Thanks MH, that aluminium chassis bit would need a bit of verification before I bought one.

At the time of my posting that they were made in China I was 100% correct.
If you read further down the same Thread you'll also see that at a latter date I posted the following:
"It's good to see Dave forging ahead.
I like his approach to van building with an emphasis of thinking outside the box without loosing the Aussie feel for the product.
I sincerely hope that Grand Cruiser can keep their head above water while they establish a niche in the market.
They're certainly making a few other manufactures take a good look at their own product development".

Cheers, Ozjohn..
