Darwin Caravan Parks

Post by webby » Wed Apr 13, 2011 2:41 pm

Hi everyone, well the Webb family are 2 weeks in to our 7 month trip and were wondering if anyone can recommend a good family park in Darwin. We are leaning towards Howard Springs Big 4 but have just read some bad reviews about attitude of owners. Has anyone stayed there recently?

It may take us a while to reply due to limited internet access.

Cheers

Big 4 at Palmerston Free spirit??? Big park on the main road but a bit expensive.
Nice sites and good for kids.

We were told the flies were bad at Lee Point so didnt go there.

Stayed at Shady Glen on the way in to Darwin. Good, friendly park. Only slight drawback is that it is under the flight path, but that doesn't bother us as they stop at night anyway.

Another vote for Lee Point - stayed there last year (3rd time) and find it OK.
Close to Casurina Shopping Centre and in a generally quiet area. Try not to get a site close to the road as traffic starts early and it can be a nuisance.
They also charge a bond $100.00 - dont know why but you do get it back on departure.
We also dont book ahead - just turn up about 8- 9am and wait in the que - takes about 15" usually to get a site.

P.S. Dont bother if you have a dog - they will take you but you wont like where they put you.

We stayed at Howard Springs in July 2010. 4 Vans in the party and the managers could not have been more helpful. It's good to be a bit out of town.

The amenities and pool area are great. Highly recommended

Thanks for everyone's replies. We have decided on Howard Springs, and it is lovely. It has 3 pools and a good playground. We have booked in for 1 week, and will probably extend it to 2 to get everything in that we want to do.

Cheers

HI,
It depends if you have a pet, you can either be put on a hot black car park at lee point or coolalinga which is the only other caravan park that accepts pets plus you have to pay $2 per day for the privilege of having your pet.

happy travels
