Savannah Way - Borroloola to Cairns

We are going to Cape Crawford and are also contemplating heading to Cairns from there however we were hoping someone has been on that road recently and could shed some light on the road conditions please. If we were to head from Borroloola to Burketown, Normanton, Georgetown and Mount Surprise. What is the road like that way please as it is just a thought only at this stage. Otherwise we will turn off near Daly Waters and head towards Barkly Station which does seem like the easier and uncomplicated way to go. We are driving a Landcruiser and towing an offroad Roadstar.
