We are heading back from Townsville to Brisbane in mid July along the Pacific Hwy., we have 7 days to allow for the trip.
We would appreciate any thoughts on places to stop/visit on our trip to Brizzie, info on free camps or good caravan parks appreciated.
We are towing a 16ft poptop with a pajero and are ok with travelling on dirt roads.

Do you want the most direct, or tourist route? If not the Bruce Hwy, then inland from Townsville to Charters Towers, south through Belyando Crossing to Clermont, Emerald, the through either Springsure or Blackwater to Rolleston, Injune, Roma, then across through Dalby, Toowoomba, to Brisbane. This could see you stopping at places like Bedford Weir, Carnarvon gorge, Theresa Dam.
If you want to go even further inland, then across to Hughenden, or even Cloncurry, down to Winton, Longreach, or Barcaldine, then south through Blackall, Tambo, Augathella, Morven, then east through to Roma, then as above. This would open up Thompson River, Ilfracombe, or Lloyd Jones weir.
