Hi All,
Heading to Tassie late January for 3 months, we have a 31ft motorhome flat towing a 4x4, total 50 ft long, has anyone toured with a big rig, any advice appreciated. We are wondering wether to leave the 4x4 behind, but then we don't have the vehicle to go to some of the more inaccessible spots. Do we need the other car?
Regards
Eric

Re: Towing in Tassie
G'day Eric,
Our tug/van rig is 42 feet. We have done Tassie 3 times. I can't think of any place we travelled where 50 feet would be too difficult a challenge. They do have large trucks and buses in Tassie.
Unless you have already done so your biggest challenge may be finding a spare 50 feet on the Tassie Ferry

Re: Towing in Tassie
Book your motorhome and 4x4 on seperately, you drive one on and your partner take the other, will work out cheaper as the 1st 6m of each gets on for the car rate.Eric46 wrote:Hi All,

You will have no real problems towing the 4x4 around Tassie

Er Chris!!! Hope this doesn't come out sounding too dumb BUT....Wouldn't the price for the Motorhome and trailer be the same whether or not the 4 x 4 is on the trailer or not?...If you already have the trailer behind the MH, wouldn't the extra vehicle, if driven on seperately, be extra...?????? Am I missing something here??chrissmith61 wrote:Book your motorhome and 4x4 on seperately, you drive one on and your partner take the other, will work out cheaper as the 1st 6m of each gets on for the car rate.Eric46 wrote:Hi All,

There is no trailer Jock. Flat-towing is having the 4x4 directly tethered to the motorhome and running on its own wheels.

hi eric we are or should i say have been in tasssie for 11 mths now with a 26ft 6 van and a troopy towing it ,all up 15.2 mt have had no problems , being a little longer a few roads spring to mind to maybe detour , st marys pass , and elephants pass are tight we,ve done st marys but you have to be on the ball and watch your mirrors , queenstown to hobart you,ll do no problems , another tight one is scottsdale to launceston ,but we,ve done that one 3 times now and again just take your time , and the other drivers are nothing like the mainland , you get of the roas for them , they toot and wave to say thanks here 9 times out of 10 , so come and enjoy tassie,we will probally be still here working in longford for a while ,so if your in longford, beautifull caravan park , drop in and say g,day were site 9
