OT I spoke to my sparky today and he agreed with pretty much what you said but instead of connecting to the ignition to isolate the power feed he will install some inline gizmo that detects voltage drop from the tug battery and shuts the feed to the van down thereby avoiding nasty surprises.

Neil, that is a more sophisticated and likely more expensive solution.

As an electronics tech I prefer to use simple components and techniques. Sometimes 'smarts' have a mind of their own or even lose their mind

The other thing I like to have is a green monitor LED on the tug dashboard to confirm that it is working.

Of course he will recommend that. He will make more profit out of a $150 VSR than a $15 relay. In the end they will both do a similar job. It will be interesting to hear the speal he gives to pressure you into spending more money.

Tar Trekker.
never thought of the cord idea.the old one was tight but not so hard to install..

I like the Handle idea tho I must admit that BRC put up.only not sure how far out it extends for tight reversing.mines mounted beside the tow ball within 6" of it as well as my 12 pin..

But lifes going to be far easier now LOL.

OT
I reckon you should hit the road in your trusty rig with tools on board and do a lap whereby you could make a few bob doing some of this tech stuff have a holiday at the same time and get paid for it.
