Maclean Show Ground NSW Excellent camping.

Post by dieseltojo » Mon Aug 29, 2016 10:36 pm

Maclean was the highlight of our travel up north as the Show ground was only $10-00 per night for a non-power site and right on the river. Unfortunately for all you others I fished that out as well. Either that or I don’t know how to fish….

Mind you it blew to 140 knots one night and brought down a decent sized branch. Fortunately no vans were hit. The neighbors van is just to the right of pic.

There was a van a bit behind me and the couple heard the branch fall 15 metres behind them. It was raining that hard that we could hardly hear the TV so just went to bed.
Any way it put the wind up the bloke behind and the hopped into their car and off to a motel for the night, even though his van was not under a large tree. But a smaller one did over hang them a bit.

Maclean is an early Scottish settlement and many light posts have the Scottish Tartans painted on up to 200 poles at ground level.
It has narrow winding streets an wonder full pubs, cafe's etc.
We had three meals on our three day stay at the princely sum of $7-00 per head. Yep not a miss print....
One day Palma , one day steak , one day schnitzel, and so it goes.

Yamba is just up the road and worth a visit as well. A beautifull area.

Not to bad for a $10-00 per day camp at Maclean.

The Maclean Tartans painted on about 200 posts around the town. All done by volunteers.

Looks a very nice spot at $10....

I could not find our family Tartan on the poles and enquired at the Visitor centre. Its seems the McConnells are only a minor clan and not represented....

G'day D.T. Beautiful Photos. There is a lot more to the Maclean area than just the township itself....Not far away is Brooms Head with a wonderful C.P. right on the Beach and from there you can go to several idyllic camp grounds in the adjacent Yuraygir National Park e.g. Sandon River.....(If you are prepared to pay the exhorbitant fees charged by the NSW authorities)

Did you get a chance to head down to the Coast and see these fantastic spots?

Trudy managed a great shot of a Cormorant catching a bream.

What made it was the sun picking up the fish for a stand out display.
