Mid July

Post by aussiealltrails » Wed Mar 01, 2017 3:50 pm

Hello All

I have two weeks holiday in mid July and want to know how far north of Perth I need to go to get nice whether. I was looking at Sandy Bay however this is only a couple of hours or so north and it looks like it still gets wet and windy that time of year.

Any idea's would be great. Leaving just after school holidays. Can free camp however don't mind a nice quiet caravan park.

Kalbarri should be warmer, but it can also get windy.

I can make a few suggestions but, with only 2 weeks holiday, I'd like to know a bit more info......How far do you wish to travel in a day?.....how many days are you willing to travel to get to a good spot?....do you want to head for a coastal or inland destination?

A few more questions,
Towing a Caravan, Camper, Tenting or staying in Cabins ??

(1) 2 weeks is not a long time to travel in W.A.
(2) It is always windy along the West coast in July.

Assuming a caravan, camper or tent.

Have a look at this:-

Day 1 Perth to Coronation Beach 480ks Stop off (about 1 hour) at The Pinnacles enroute.

Day 2 Coronation Beach to Kalbari 170ks
Day 3 Kalbari (Visit Kalbari NP)

Day 4 Kalbari to Carnarvon 450ks

Day 5 Carnarvon to Exmouth 380ks Must book sites in Cape Range NP in advance or you may miss out.
Days 6,7 8 & 9 Cape Range N.P. (Ningaloo Reef)

Return .

Day 10 Exmouth to Wooramel Roadhouse C.P. 500ks

Day 11 Wooramel to Three Springs (Freecamp) 540ks

Day 12 Three Springs to New Norcia 200ks visit to Monastry.

Day 13 New Norcia to Perth 200ks

Distances are approximate only and subject to correction by others.

To get to the real warmer weather in July you must go about 200ks north of The Tropic of Capricorn, which would be around Karatha.

It will be warm at Karijini, spectacular scenery & excellent walks. Mt Augustus is worth a look, as is New Norcia. The inland road should avoid winds. Meekatharra also

You say leaving mid July so you may have set you time to leave when school goes back on 17th July. It will be all but impossible to get a campsite along the coastal strip during the school holidays.

O.K.... I reckon the best spots for you to enjoy would be either Denham or Carnarvon. Both are within 1000 kms Nth. of Perth and hence an easy 2 days drive.
Each centre has several Caravan parks to choose from...if you are not familiar with them, I would suggest that you check out "Badgers Caravan Reports" site.
Fishing opportunities are excellent at both locations and both are big enough to have all the facilities and plenty of things to do.
We have been to both in Mid. July and the weather was warm and very pleasant.

Hope this helps.

Jock :)
