Re: Kunnunurra
Hi everyone - thanks for great advise. We are staying at Kimberleyland now. We had booked and lucky we did as the place is totally full. We were lucky to get a site looking out over the lake as most sights can't see the lake at all. The amenities are OK, the one closest to us is a bit small and old but the is another one close by that is a lot newer and bigger. The cost was $35 per night which is OK for up here. I need to pick your brains on a couple of other things if it is OK. We are going up to Wyndham should we do it as a day trip or go and stay? We are also going to Home Valley and El Questro any suggestions for up there? Thanks Davine Your welcome to check out our 12 month adventure on www.53buddhas.blogspot.com

Re: Kunnunurra
Hi Davine
Sounds lovely.
Stay a night a Wyndham and see the sunset from the Five Rivers Lookout. Spectacular. The caravan park is quiet on the edge of town and although the amenities are old (one block in particular) they were well kept and good - the park ranked amongst the better ones on my criteria.
At El Questro the real must-sees are Emma Gorge (quite a walk up to it) and Zebedee Hot Springs (open to the public only in the mornings). You have to pay for a "pass" to see anything on ELQ. You can check my travel blogs for what to see and do and El Questro and in the area. In three days we did not see everything but selected a few key places. We did not go to Home Valley, in part because it was closed for upgrades at the time, but we would have chosen ELQ anyway.

Re: Kunnunurra
I wouldn't be bothered staying at Wyndham. Just make it a day trip...apart from the lookout there's sweet FA else there to see or do. Certainly El Questro is a must, particularly the highlights mentioned by Motherhen. Home Valley is also worth a few days stay but not as good as El Questro IMO. BIG BUT though...do you have an offroad caravan?..Apart from the rough corrugated roads there;s also a couple of decent water crossings. Jock

Re: Kunnunurra
Bitumised to ELQ turn off from the east end. Their road in can be a bit corrugated with a shallow water crossing as you get to the 'village', but all sort of caravans get in there. The road is being upgraded to the Pentecost crossing then it is not all that far to Home Valley. Trying to post a few photos of the river crossings and road but it won't let me You can see some of them, as well as the sunset from the lookout at Wyndham on my web travelogues.

Will bore you some more
Travelling from west to east as we were, these two should be before the previous post, but they were the ones that gave me trouble loading and blocked the upload.

Re: Kunnunurra
Just a couple more photos. Well worth spending an hour or three in the evening at The Bastion, overlooking Old Wyndham, the extremes of the tides and the colourful sunsets.
