Free camping guide

Post by camperfam » Sat Dec 22, 2012 1:10 pm

Is there a book or something that deals with free camping sites? This site is great but we are taking off on a journey and will be doing it with just our car, a large tent and other supplies so worried if we get to a place and the laptops die we wont have a reference for the next stop. Basically to help you understand we are going to go on an adventure with myself my husband and 5 kids and spend a few months camping and saving up to eventually buy a caravan type thing but we are looking to see some good sites, hit most of the states before deciding where to settle down and buy a home.

Any help is appreciated and has anyone camped for a few months before? Would like to hear how you went and if you had a good time. Look forward to getting away from all this technology and just get the kids out for some good fun not locked to tvs all day ;p

Not biannually Rod, it is published every 2 years.

CAW7 is due mid February 2013. I always purchase it from my auto club (RACQ) at a member price which is discounted. I usually only update every second edition as you can download the updates in between from the CAW website.

I agree with Rod....it is to my knowledge, the best publication available.

Thats great thanks just hoping to have a great time. I am from the US and moved here with my husband who is an AU born and raised but even he has never been camping and hasnt been out of Victoria. We home school so thought why be stuck in a house why not travel and see Australia my friends back home will be so jealous.

Now a question is it feasible to be able to camp in a tent the one we have is a 4 room tent or would we be better off going caravan route after a few weeks what are your thoughts?

How long will you be travelling???

Most use the security of a van ETC but theres still plenty that use tents OR the foldout trailer tents. Very cheap too, maybe $5000 for the basic new one.
