Post Camps Australia Wide Edition 8
The first piece of equipment to buy when wanting to free camp is the "Bible", Camps Australia Wide.
I received an email today that the next edition, number 8, will go on sale on 10 February this year at $89.95 but is always cheaper by far from your auto club.
If you only free camp for 2-3 nights you will get your money back.
It is Australian researched and family owned; not and never will be owned by Big 4 according to the owners!
By the way it is of no use to those on the forum who are not interested in free camping and indeed touring this country. Living the dream!

i used to tink the same and yes it is a great book BUT na dhere is always a bUT

1. It has peeved me for years that the scale of the maps differ from map to map and

2. it has become so popular that any camps marked with a tick are over crowded

On our trip t Wagga wagga earlier last year we bought the wikicamps app for Brenda’s tablet, for a fraction of the cost there are more camps and as much information

I think maybe from now on an Australian road atlas and wikicamps will be our choice

We have been planing a trip to South Australia Venus bay &other places and the great ocean road across to south coast of Victoria and follow the coast of new south Wales then home We found that using the wikicamps app has been good, you can do your research from that by checking photos and price s and comments , I still check with the camps book it is helpful . Should be in Venus bay on the 24th Feburary looking for them King gorge Whiting

Yes it is available to be used when there is no internet.

WikiCamps has the option to download off-line content which is all the camps, comments, prices and pictures that are available when you have internet access. This can be done state by state. So if you are not on the internet for a month, the data is only a month old anyway.

As a bonus, it also allows you to download the off-line maps which I have found to be very detailed. They don’t give you bridge clearances, road widths / conditions etc, but you have access to all known streets, roads, and tracks etc for all of Oz. Great for when you are arriving in any city, town or small community.

Cheers
Muzz

PS: I have no connection to WikiCamps, just a satisfied user.

Of course not everything listed is free, and low cost caravan parks are also included.

The CAMP book is our bible. However we also refer to the Wikicamp as a back up or confirmation.
We have Camp 5 which I try to keep up to date, but it is getting nearly time for us to invest in the Camp 8.
Likewise we love bush camping and we are not that concerned if there are heaps of people. Just give us more security and more people to converse with.
Now that is living the dream as our old mate "rrredbeak". uses as his call sign. Pretty good I reckon

I just downloaded it to my iPad so we’ll see how it goes.
My biggest problem is getting SWMBO trained just enough to use it correctly because if there are too many options on the screen, she will throw it in my direction and say "damn it, you do it!"
$7.95 may not be a good investment in my case.
