Inverter Generators

Post by Debdee » Sat Sep 03, 2011 10:53 pm

Just noticed, over the past couple of weeks, a few "new model" generators being advertised as having inverters built-in. Anyone had any experience with them yet? Are they up to speed as far as powering airconditioners, microwaves, TVs and computers? :?:

They have been around for a while. A good example is the Honda EU20i. Many caravanners use them. They are the way of the future because the engine does not have to run at full speed to achieve the correct frequency output (50 Hertz) as with a conventional alternator. They adjust their engine speed according to electrical load and so tick over quietly when lightly loaded. The output is pure sine wave and fine for electronics, and also air-con if a suitable sized unit is chosen.

Didn't realise they'd been around that long  but probably just hadn't noticed 'em before because we hadn't previously heard about 'em

Thanks, Old Techo - will keep a note of that Honda one, it might be handy information, when we're a little closer to finally doing our trip ;-)
