The ATM sounds like a giant con job Gerry, so let us all go off on a tangent.

My licence is free, and I pay no rego.

My Third party is included in my household insurance, at no extra charge.

Governments all over the country are bending over backwards to construct passageways just for me, and my mates.

I choose my own ATM.

Love that Trek bicycle

To get an LR or MR license you’re looking at around $500 and half a day

For a HR or HC (after having held an MR or HR for the prerequisite time period) with some experience in road ranger gear boxes OR getting a license with an Automatic/Syncromesh restriction allow around $1500 and 2 days

There are schemes to assist the unemployed with cheap/free license to assist them in gaining paid employment
My son has MR and has just payed to do his HC $2,475.00 and 2 days

Here is SA doesn’t matter if you’re a pensioner or not
License is for 10 years and last time cost me $240
I have HR (to drive a school bus) but the fee is regardless of class, but because I take regular medication I must pass a physical each year, $145 not covered by medicare.
I also have to see a cardiologist every year and have to undergo a stress echo test which this year showed an irregularity and I had to have an angiogram (all clear BTW) luckily the Cardiologist puts that through bulk bill otherwise I would have been up for over $3000 this year
Then every 3 years we also have to get a DFC clearance ($75) but because I am on medication mine is done Yearly $45

One wonders whether it’s all worth wile just to have a part time job??

If they suspect you are not loaded correctly or are over weight they can do this, if they think your van is over the weight allowed by the towing vehicle they can do this….
In 35 years towing a van I have been checked twice then in the last month I have seen the checking being done at roadside stops on the HUME and Burley Griffin Way….
Not sure what the fines are but you can bet its not going to be irrelevant….
Trev, how many tow vehicles have you seen a tow vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass exceeding 4.5t?

Ouch!

Pays to shop around for these things, but perhaps prices have gone up.

These things cost per hour, the quicker you pick up the concepts, and the more adaptable you are to the silly little things the instructor will require you to do, the faster you get through the competencies and the cheaper it is.

The CITB provide around $1000 towards doing a HR or HC license in SA as well.

After the CITB funding my next ticket (Franna Crane) is going to cost me the pincely sum of $80

I think that I would be staying away from cranes for a while.
