do these vin plate numbers suit pajero

Post by runabout rick » Mon Jul 20, 2015 2:09 pm

Hello boys and girls,

Some body please help me out here, I have purchased a van which I was advised was pajero friendly with the following on the drawbar VIN plate

ATM 2690
GTM 2470
TARE 2140
TOWBALL 220

My pajero is current model 3.2 diesel GLX auto
I am aware of the Pajero 2500/ 250 limit thing and have put the towsafe scale under the drawbar while van was empty and the 220kg figure is about right. Does MMAL limit apply to GTM or ATM. I will definately be finding a weighbridge when we load this thing but its hard to get a handle on this stuff, for me it really is anyway. Oh ! the car has a genuine MM towbar too and will have Hayman Reece Standard WDH soon. This subject has i know been done many times over but not for this van.

Have I left out and vital information? Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks
Rick

You can tow it provided you don't load it with more than 390 kg of load. The magic figure is 2500 kg all up weight. The ATM exceeds that so you can not load it fully.

thanks peterD,
so mitsubishi's 2500/250 limits can be read as max 2500 GTM ( weight on wheels ) with 250 max on towbar, in effect means max ATM 2750. Am i reading that right

hi Rounabout Rick.

I had the same head spin when I bought a new van and the bloke who handed it over to me gave me incorrect info.

Now let me be helpful instead of asking for advice like I have been.

VSB 1 sets it out fairly clearly. but a sticker that I have photographed spells it out beautifully.

I will attach photo if the system lets me. Had to re-size it.

Regards
Gerry

Didn't come out real clear.
Is there somewhere on this site where I can upload a 1MB picture file?

Rick it does mean that at all. What maximum towing capacity means is that you can not exceed that figure with the total weight of the trailer that you are going to hitch to the rear of the vehicle. The ball weight is not subtracted from the trailers total weight to ascertain the weight you are towing.

You will notice I did not use terms like this. Maximum GTM and maximum ATM are nonsense terms. ATM and GTM are defined limits. They are stamped on the compliance plate and they can not vary until an engineering assessment is conducted and a new plate. ATM is the maximum weight your van can be loaded up to and GTM is the maximum weight the axle group can be when the van is attached to the ball of the tug. You can find the actual definitions by downloading the actual documents on the links. You can have it in PDF, DOC or ZIP formats.

Hi Rick your van must not exceed 2500k fully loaded if you are to tow with a pajero regardless of what is on the compliance plate of the van.
hope this helps
