Question. Travel with your water tank or tanks full or empty

I always try to keep mine topped up as we never know if we might stop at a free camp for the night.

Normally I leave home with tanks full. For a shorter trip I may begin with 3/4 but never less.

On the road I rarely use tank water, or add any, as I prefer to save it for drinking as most places in Oz have crappy tasting water, including here at Phillip island.

Some vans travel less happy with empty tanks as it reduces tow-ball weight.

I have 2 tanks, one in front of the axles & one behind I only fill the rear tank & leave the front empty because it helps get a better ball weight. Our stays are 99.9% caravan parks so don't need to carry much really...

We always travel with ours full as long as we are in a place where we can get good drinking water. It gives us flexibility as to where we stop.

I think it is all to do with where you are going and if water is available and if water is plentiful only have the front tank full as leaving water in the rear tank can only increase the risk of stability issues with the front tank empty.

Also having some water makes it easy to stop for tea as water is readily available.
Travelling with a water tank say half full or maybe half empty splashing around can sometimes create stability issues with a van that may not be that well balanced.

I always travel with tanks full if possible mainly because we never know where we will be that night. Also the heavier the van the less overall effect you get when towing as the weight of the water is not as big a percentage of the total weight of the van.

We always leave home with 2 full tanks (250lts) because we use rain water. If we decide to free camp or park water supply is not so good we have enough to usually last nearly two weeks

Like most say, it's a good thing to have plenty of water on board, particularly if you free camp often.
One key benefit of travelling with full tank/s is this lowers the centre of gravity of your van giving more stability on the road.
Having said this, there will be times when it's not possible or practical to travel with full tanks.
