IP44 15Amp inlet

Post by TramcarTrev » Fri Nov 11, 2016 4:20 pm

Does anyone know who makes an IP44 15Amp power INLET that does not decompose in sunlight?
I've had 2 Jayco supplied ones and the second after 18 months is looking dodgy with bits of the lid falling off....
Maybe something like this may last longer; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-pin-15-Amp ... SwFqJWmK4-

I think that would look a bit doggy on the side of a van, my opinion

I bought one for our old van at a CARAVAN repair place and it lasted the eight years we had the van and was still good when we sold it try camec?

Yes it may look out of place its IP66 too.. No requirement it seems for IP44 to be made of UV resistant plastic.
The trouble is that Jayco use a proprietry system for their 240V wiring which eliminates the need for licenced sparkies to do the wiring, They are also going to do all diesel from late next year too so then no need for gasfitters either. If I put a Quality IP44 inlet on I would have to remove the jayco plug and then strip the cable and screw it in. Then if I do that myself I'll get howled down becuase Im not a Licenced Sparkie...

Might see what Geo Brown has...

I only use Clisal. Unfortunately TC you will need a sparkie to hook it up. But you will only have to do it once. I found other brands just don't last. There are a few new brands coming onto the market but its not worth the callback if they fail so we stick to Clipsal.

Went to Jayco and complained again that the power inlet had fallen apart due to UV destroying the plastic. The guy I spoke to was pretty positive and said they had changed suppliers and the new ones had better UV resistance and as its plug in I wouldnt need a sparkie to fix it....
So I aked him (after discovering they wanted $67 for a newie) if it was a known and reported fault why the vans affected were not recalled because it is a safety issue if the lid does not stop rain getting into the connection.
He called HQ.
5 mins later he had given me a new one and was pleased that I could undo the 4 screws and plug it in myself rather than having to get them to do it.... Van is only 2 years out of warrantry....
This is another of those jobs where it will take longer to back the van out than it will to do the job
