UV activated Adhesive
Remember we discussed this stuff before?
I've found its now on at $1 a tube;
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252448944944 ... EBIDX%3AIT
I bought another 5 tubes
Despite being in a black UV proof tube it still goes off so really what I was doing ie just sitting it in the bag with my tools and spares dosent do it any good.
Lasts really well if you store it in a dark place eg fridge and it lasts a loooooooong time....
I repaired a guys snapped fan belt with it and he set off in the direction of Pt Augusta in search of a new belt, we didnt pass him at the roadside or even see a belt laying on the road so I assume it held together. Damned inconsiderate of him not to contact me and tell me how it lasted...
I could actually believe the bit in the advert where they glue a steel rope together and pull a ute onto a flattop...
I have no fiducary interest in this product, its just a rare case of something that does what it's claimed and advertised on TV, when it says "As Advertised on TV" im always skeptical...

Re: UV activated Adhesive
I didn't like it that much, TTrev, after buying some on your recommendation. Now you owe me a dozen stubbies ( ), I cannot see how the light goes deep enough to form a decent bond. For example if you were to join two coins together, how would the light get to the glue that was a few millimetres away from the edge of the coin?
Certainly wouldn't trust it on high-strength stuff. Soudel T'Rex maybe...........

Yes I had wondered about that myself. "How does the light get in"?
I did do a few tests and I found that in really deep applications its best to do it in 2 or more goes. But what seems to happen if you join 2 opaque surfaces together is that the stuff cures off itself. What I mean is that the adhesive that the light can't get too cures by being in contact that the UV has cured....
Yes is certianly not the universal panacea but it has its uses, this is a novel one; A friend claims that he had a filling fall out at Glendambo.... He is in reasonable pain..... He then gets his wife to help him pack his mouth with tissues and blow out the moisture from around the tooth. Then he squirts the UV glue into the cavity and cures it.... Pain goes away.... Gets to Port Augusta and is sent to the emergency dentist who of course is stunned at his repair. Drills out his handy work and replaces it with - yes You guessed it, another UV curing material...

Re: UV activated Adhesive
Pays to hunt around, I found it at my local $2 shoppe, $1.25 a tube... I notice now you can buy refills for the glue and use the led as supplied but it costs as much for the refill as it does for the whole thing...

I bought a bottle of this; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221963178319 ... EBIDX%3AIT
Does a far better job, cures in the presence of sunlight or Flourescent light not in 5 seconds, around 30 seconds to a minute.... Stuck a bit off brass to a piece of glass, could not be seperated, the glass snapped....

Re: UV activated Adhesive
I have had mixed results with the UV cure stuff I bought. I was trying to repair a childs plastic basket ball hoop and although it appeared to stick the threaded section onto the base of the pole, it separated once I trid to screw it together. Looks like it doesn't stick too well to certain plastics.

Yes Plastics can be tricky especially if you dont actually know what kind of plastic it is....nsgnomad wrote:I have had mixed results with the UV cure stuff I bought. This stuff works on almost all types of plastic except it is an instant bond; https://www.bunnings.com.au/loctite-2g- ... _p1210073
Or look here for how to info; http://www.wikihow.com/Glue-Plastic

Re: UV activated Adhesive
this product was tested on you tube recently. the pro ppl videos showed it working strong. the negative ppl showed it failing even tho they reproduced the pros test exactly...
its a matter of who you believe...
i have to say theres no way could i believe the fan belt repair unless it was my belt n i tested it.
cheers rod

Re: UV activated Adhesive
I'm into Lapidary and have used the UV stuff (ex ebay not the "But wait that's not all" TV rip-off) to glue cabochons to findings and metal pendants...Works great.
