Fridge PeterD? The person that started the thread was talking about the plug on their HWS hence the thread being named hot water power point.

You are correct. However they are both fixed installations, the HWS is probably even more permanent. When servicing it I would prefer to have a plug to remove when I have my fingers working around the HWS, particularly if the switch is not in sight of the heater.

Peter D I agree with you that the plug is the better option. I sit on the fence as far as the heater is fixed. It is still designed to be removed for service. Yet it is fixed. I am sure I have read something in the rules about this. If I get a spare moment I will see if I can find it. I think it may be in the QLD electrical safety act.

I'll stick with our setup, the qualified sparky was surprised it wasn't wired that way in the first place.

Much better that than having the plug work loose and short or your clothing catching fire in the cupboard from arcing.

HI
They are fitted with a plug so a NON licensed [person ]ELECTRICIAN can remove them ;-)
Once, Fixed wired ,Only Electricians shall disconnect or reconnect
Did the qualified sparky explain that??

Also, for safety reasons, THAT switch should now be either lockable in the "OFF position or be within reach of someone working on the rear of the fridge.
