Redarc Tow Pro
G'day all
I've started this thread following comments made about the Tow Pro on another thread concerning the sale of a Tekonsha P3 - if that makes sense
I've found the website
http://www.redarc.com.au/handy-hints/-/ ... r_tow-pro/
but am keen to hear of experiences. When I bought our 200 the Redarc (non inertia) was attractive but only from the perspective of fitting. I went with the P3 because it was the inertia type and fitted it in the ashtray area of the cruiser but now I've learnt of the Redarc Tow Pro.
Found the cost to be $330 which is about twice the price of a P3.
I'll be most keen to hear any comments of experiences thus far including photos of fitting etc.
Has this product surpassed the P3?
cheers
Jdog

Can't remember the supplier Frank but it was off Ebay and might have been OT's reference for about the same price.

Re: Redarc Tow Pro
Hi RDog,
We had the new Redarc Tow Pro fitted a few weeks ago and recently did a trip to Tin Can Bay, about 600km return.
The controller is terrific - we are very pleased with it!
You need to first calibrate it. This was a little "different", shall I say....the brakes were locked on quite strongly. We were nervous to pull the van like that, but we put it into low range and pulled it through. You need to go about 20 metres, going at 10-20KPH on a smooth, flat road. Once calibrated, you never have to touch the main control unit again and ours is fitted behind the console somewhere (ARB fitted it). It goes from green and blue (pre calibration), to solid blue and you know it is done correctly. Plus the brakes are not on so strongly anymore! The main unit can be mounted in any position.
All you see is the small knob, which we fitted to the right of the steering wheel. It is so easy to reach and so compact.
Brilliant in auto mode - you turn the knob down or up a click as required then set and forget. The manual mode requires more adjustments, but is great for off-road work.
Once calibrated, you leave in auto mode and away you go.
Also, you can adjust the braking as you drive, not only stopped like the other brake controllers - very useful. The braking seems more precise than the P3, thus not needing it on a setting quite as high/strong.
We also like not having to remove the main unit all the time when finished towing and no bumping of one's knee on it!
Overall, extremely pleased with it - super bit of kit.
Ebay are selling thme at around $250-$270. The P3s on there are about $165.
Cheers,
Sally

Re: Redarc Tow Pro
Hi OT,
Sorry should re-phrase that.
We don't have to stop to look at the settings under the dash. With this Redarc, it can be done with feel whilst you are driving.
Hubby liked to stop and stick his head under to actually look at the settings on the screen and see the buttons to press with the previous P3 controller.
Cheers,
Sally

Re: Redarc Tow Pro
Hi Sally, With the Redarc is it possible to bring the van and car to a halt without touching the car brakes. As you can with the lever under the P3. Thanks Brian.

Re: Redarc Tow Pro
Hi Brian,
Yes, absolutely!
You simply press the button in (it glows red) and if that is not enough to do it, you then turn it one or two clicks up until it does.
It is so easy to use.
Cheers,
Sally
