Gitano,

Our latest rig as of a few weeks ago is a Getz and a 1998 11foots Viscount Nipper.
Doing a bit of work on the Nipper, somewhere in its past some wood work was done utilising a chain saw or something equally as rough.
It is a goer so the resto work is being done between trips.
It will never look as good as yours, my skills level is pretty basic as compared to you.

Take it easy.

Thank you for your compliment, just take a bit of time to get a van to the stage that it is the Franklin.
The main job to do in an old van it is make it water tight.
This requires removing all the J rails, clean both surfaces and reseal them with Sikaflex marine.
The second job is doing the same job with the windows and hatches.
The third job it is reseal the join (seams) on the roof using Sikaflex roof and gutter.
The following link are videos of the jobs that we have done with my son in his Millard and my Franklin.
Perhaps these videos will help those that are considering a renovation of an old caravan.

Thanks for that Gitano,
We have never tackled a resto on a van, a bit of a tidy up at best. In the case of the Nipper it will stay at a basic stage.
We did knock up a Teardrop about 4 years back, that was a lot of fun. We did not out grow it, rather we out aged it as we were finding it a bit hard to get in and out of.

Gitano,
The little Nipper appears to have no leaks as I towed it some 750k home in terrible weather conditions, rain all the way and flooding in some areas.
The work is in mostly rectifying what others have done.
I like the colours in yours, the Nipper could use a lift in that area, a bit drab as it is.
We are off again late next week, another long trip, some five nights and 1500k.
I would like to get some paint on it before we go.
Anyway, gainfully employed.
Take it easy.

SD, when you are ready to paint the van, for the strips like the orange in my van use signwriters paint which will not fade with the UV light.
I recommend the paint that i have used http://www.viponds.com.au/acrylics
I painted the van with Solagard (4 coats with a very good quality paint brush (very important for a good finish)

Forgot to add, use screenwriters masking type, does not leach and will not affect the back ground paint.

Gitano,
Thanks for that.
Another coffee and I shall head down to the shed. The van lives in a shed in the Industrial area. A few minutes from home.

Gitano,
Did a Bunnings run this morning, armed with all the gear.
We will give the van a good clean this arvo and get stuck into it over the week end. Weather looks good, not too hot or cold.
Thanks for the heads up. :D
