Hey there TassieD,
What size did you get? We are looking at 600x600 but I am not sure if it will be too small.
Day of have any pics?

Had to find it myself jessdogster, :)

This may not suit every one and I must say it was a fair bit of work as all my electricals had to be redone. We lost a nice seat but gained a throne. :)

We used a shower base from Bunnings 900x900mm and went from there.
900x900mm allows you to dry off in the shower and bend over to clean everything.
Admittedly you need a fair amount of room to fit a shower that big but it does make for an easy shower.

Thanks everyone for your advice, it is much appreciated. The bedroom has been completely gutted and the rear wall taken out at this stage. The van had a previous water leak and this had damaged the timber frame. Frame is currently being repaired so we thought why not try and pop a shower in. We are not looking to take her free camping at this stage so no extra water tank required just yet.
What sort of HWS do you recommend? I guess my biggest concern is whether or not it is really worth all the extra $$$ and hubby's hard work. Am I just being a princess wanting to step out of bed and into the shower?
Are we better to purchase a cubicle or just a base and go from there? Window in the cubicle or fan or hatch in the ceiling?
We are looking at keeping the van long term. Once again all comments and advice will be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi bigvmum,
Not a lot of differences in Hot water units, but I like the suburban or the smaller variety of Truma. The Truma does not have issues with the replacement of any thing like a sacrificial anode, which may need to be considered.
Everything to do with longevity of a HWS is usually related to its installation and the correct Pressure reducing valves and their installation.
Also the correct valve for the supply of water from mains supply and the fitting of the pump and the quality of the fittings etc.
I like the John guest fittings for a better job, but they cost a bit more initially.

Stay away from little known brands for a self installation.
Others may disagree of course...... :)

There is a new emerging HWS being used by caravan manufacturers which does not have a reservoir and is constant supply - turn the tap on and you will have as much hot water as you are carrying  .
I saw one on a new Nova and it looks around the same size (externally) as a Suburban or similar.

JD, do you mean an instant or on-demand gas HWS perhaps like these.... http://www.ebay.com/bhp/rv-tankless-water-heater?

The gas ones are OK but electric on-demand consumes far too much power for RV use in Oz.

From memory it was a 750x900. We put a hatch in the poptop roof which supplied plenty of light. Fitted an Atwood gas HWS in the useless bottom corner kitchen cupboard.
